My IP Address Is Refusing To Connect To The Internet

19216811 refused to connect

My internet is configured to use port 10h; however, this machine refuses to connect with any of the ports specified. When I reboot the machine, all further attempts to connect are met with failure. This problem is not isolated. It seems to be affecting many other machines in my environment; and I have also had similar problems with several ports on different machines. The trouble began when I attempted to connect to a site using the common name for my server: IP-ADDRESS. In my browser, the IP address is displayed. I was able to connect to the site. When I refreshed the page, however, the web page did not display any IP addresses. I clicked the "back" button to exit the browser. Immediately, the error message was displayed: "Socket Error".

How Do You Check IP-ADDRESS Header?

Then I checked with the IP-ADDRESS header I got from the domain name. It listed the IP address I typed in. It turns out that my server is located at an old office building that is unoccupied. I've been advised to contact technical support and they will have to perform maintenance on the server. Meanwhile, I've put up with this problem for two weeks. The longer I've been offline the more frustrated I become.

I finally realized that the server may be suffering from a severe power failure. Because power is required to maintain the machine (I can't access the modem), I imagine the server would be inaccessible during a power failure. When I called the IT service company, however, they said they could not check the server; they are too busy. It was disappointing to know that they could not help me. Their reply was to tell me to try to contact the landlord of the unoccupied building.

I also tried logging onto the server via telnet but to no avail. Apparently, there was a problem with my connection, which resulted in the IP-ADDRESS header being different from the other clients'. The server was refusing to give any addresses or it was returning "inet" addresses. In short, it was not responding to requests anymore.

I then remembered that I had registered the domain name for my business. Apparently, the business did not get an address through my web hosting provider. However, I was still able to access its directory. I checked the Whois and found that the IP-ADDRESS of the Whois record was listed in my directory; however, the rest of the details were blank.

The name of the server I was using was registered a few months ago. I tried typing the IP address in any of the web browsers, and it returned the IP address of one of my competitors. Apparently, my competitor's IP had already been reserved before I got the link. The results were similar when I tried logging into his website using some of the popular search engines like Google and Yahoo. The results were identical; however, a few details were left out when the pages were opened one by one.

This was getting frustrating; however, I was too far away from finding the solution I needed. I tried calling the customer support of the web host and explained the situation to them. They suggested that I use their "Whois Lookup" service but I could not find any information regarding this. Finally, I decided to try to trace the IP using the "Trace IP" function of the popular reverse lookup service I was using earlier.
